One Percent Dog
My novel One Percent Dog was scheduled to be published in 2022 under the wing of a new UK publisher, Pemberton Press, where 'the reverie meets the road', apparently. After not communicating AT ALL for 6 months the guy behind it finally admitted he's closing it down. Too much reverie, not enough road, maybe.
I think everybody understands that stuff goes wrong, but silence is not a businesslike response to it - it's a manchild's response. I'm sick of manchildren, their sulky silences and their inability to explain their stupid behaviour and either deal with it or accept its consequences.
The new publishing industry is full of amateurs and incompetents who think publishing is 'easy', it seems - from writers to publishers to scammers. He said he was 'incredibly' sorry for not being in touch. 'Incredible' is a good word, and I can't actually believe it; it was entirely his choice not to communicate, not in response to edits, extra material such as an endorsement cover quote, back and front matter, enquiries about the cover and finally, two pointed mails I was trying to avoid sending, saying what is going on?
ON the bright side, I didn't like the look of the half-hearted website nor the spelling and grammar errors that peppered the correspondence we did have, so maybe it's for the best.
